Two months before the photos in this article were taken I had asked to have my dye cut off by a hairdresser. Quite a milestone in a woman's life when she has been dyeing her hair for decades. See the previous article here https://francesbigadventure.blogspot.com/2026/06/becoming-me.html
It came time for a trim to get rid of most of the remaining dye. You need at least 8 weeks in order to have enough grey regrowth behind the colour. I was looking forward to it as I was now sick of seeing any red. I'm finding I prefer the grey/white natural me now. I've taken another look at my wardrobe as it doesn't quite suit my new shade but I can't afford to throw things out and start again. Instead I am considering how to recombine my pieces. It's useful to reflect on this from time to time, eliminating clothes that no longer work or get worn.
I've also indulged in some cheap jewellery, now that my ears can clearly be seen. That was a bit of fun and rejuvenated my interest in fashion, somewhat.
This time Janelle snipped off as much old red tint as she could whilst still keeping as much length as possible. I have almost eradicated the old me-colour and I much prefer my natural colour these days. In 8 weeks time all red traces will be gone. It's certainly a comfortable wash and wear, easy to maintain with just my fingers kind of style.
My skin tone gradually changed with the passing of the years without me being aware of it. I grew older while trying to keep myself as I had been for years. I like this elegant look but I also know that I would like to start growing my hair longer again to just above my shoulders, eventually. I'll still have my waves but I won't be a slave to dyeing my hair, worrying about a skunk tripe every 3 weeks. Tranquil, accepting this new me. Will I be able to become a rock chick bass player again (see below 3 years ago) in the future? I'd like to if the opportunities present themselves.
I'm definitely ready to move forward with all my life-changing plans. Next steps will be to finalise the sale of my home, have a shoulder replacement and then move to France. That's probably enough to occupy me for the rest of this year.
